Brigadier General (Ret) Sam L. Kindred, Business Advisor  

Currently serving as the Project Manager for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) project for the Ohio Secretary of State.  Establishing the Computerized Statewide Voter Registration Centralized Database for the state of Ohio and developing the Business Continuity Plan for Elections in Ohio.

Joined the U. S. Army as a Private and retired as a Brigadier General.  Last duty assignment in the U. S. Army was as Deputy Commanding General of the Army Recruiting Command. After serving two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and Platoon Leader, held a variety of senior leadership and management positions both state side and over seas in Recruiting, Logistics, Human Resources, Contract Quality Assurance, Procurement, Engineering and Aviation in locations ranging from Hawaii to Germany to the Balkans and the Pentagon. Some of his key assignments were:

  • Personnel Manager for Aviation Colonels at the Army Personnel Center
  • Director of Army Aviation Logistics at the Pentagon
  • Director of Production at the Army Materiel Command
  • Deputy Director of Army Recruiting at the Recruiting Command Headquarters

Some non-military positions included Vice President for Business Affairs and CFO, Washington State University. In this capacity he was responsible for all financial, business and security operations of the University.

Most recently worked in the U.S. Senate, where he was brought in after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, to establish the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness for the Senate and to develop security policies and procedures for Senators and staff.

Graduated from Hampton Institute (University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and from Central Michigan University with a Master of Arts Degree in Management and Supervision.  Graduate of the Engineering Advanced Management Training Program at Stanford University and the Leader Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership.

Graduate of numerous Defense Department schools, including the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; the Defense Systems Management College (Program/ Project Management); the Army Staff College;  Contract, Procurement and Transportation Courses; Military Police and Flight Schools, and the Aircraft Maintenance and Test Pilot Schools.

Military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (4), the Bronze Star Medal (2); the Purple Heart; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3); Seventeen Air Medals and the Army Commendation Medal (3).  Awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal twice for disaster relief missions.

Certifications include: Project Management Professional (PMP); Commercial Pilot’s license with instrument rating for airplanes and helicopters; Financial Security Series 6, 7, 26, 65 & 66 licenses.

Sam is married to the former Shirley Clopton. They reside in Westerville, OH. They have two adult children Tiffany who resides in the Washington DC area and Sam Jr who resides in Austin, TX.
